This festive event consists of a parade of hundreds of paper-mache giants or “higantes” as they are called in the native tongue. This tradition dates back to the Spanish colonial history. Higantes come as puppets in the face of a man/woman in different costumes with their hands on their waist. This has been an annual tradition here that brings about local tourism opportunities, too.
